Nordic Center Groomer Update

Important Updates at the Nordic Center

Unfortunately, Ms. Kitty, the Nordic Center groomer, is still out of commission. Nordic Center staff and Mt. Shasta Ski Park mechanics have exhausted all field attempts to diagnose the mechanical issue. Our next step is to transport the groomer to a local shop where a professional diesel mechanic can identify the mechanical problem and help strategize a plan of action. In the meantime, Mt. Shasta Ski Park has offered to groom a portion of the Nordic Center trails for Saturdays and Sundays the next few weeks. We will groom with our snowmobile on the other days of the week. Because the Ski Park groomer is wider than our machine, they cannot groom our narrower trails.

We understand that this is not ideal, but it is all we can offer at the present moment. We could not navigate this situation without the mechanical and grooming support from Mt. Shasta Ski Park, as they have gone above and beyond our partnership agreement to help troubleshoot this issue. Many thanks to Richard Coots, Guy Morris, and Danni Jonsson!

As we wait for a mechanical diagnosis, we are looking at short term options to get us through the 2021 season while addressing the possibility of an engine rebuild or purchasing a new groomer. We will keep you updated on our progress.

Thank you for your patience, and we apologize for the inconvenience and inconsistencies as we work to get back to full operation as soon as possible.

We are offering discounts on use trail tickets due to partially groomed trails (inquired at the Nordic Center trailhead) and our hours of operation are Wednesday-Sunday, and Monday, February 15th, Presidents' Day. 9am to 4pm. For details, please visit https://www.mtshastanordic.org/

It takes skill and balance to be a smooth skate skier. A whole different set of skills is needed to look this color coordinated. Well done, John!
