Mt. Shasta Nordic Center offers 23.5 km of trails for skate & classic cross country skiing for all ages and abilities. Services include classic and skate ski rentals, lessons, and a cozy base area with hot drinks, snacks, and picnic tables. You’ll also find a 2.5 km trail for snowshoeing as well as snowshoe rentals. Plus smiles. Lots of those.
It must be noted that our trail fee revenue is insufficient to fully cover the costs of grooming our trail system. Considering that most Nordic season passes for trails in the western US are twice our price, we now offer a season pass tier for skiing enthusiasts who want (and are able) to contribute to sustainably groomed trails: Trail Champion Season Passes. Additional donations of any amount can be entered on the Season Pass purchase page. Every extra dollar goes directly into helping cover Nordic Center operations. We thank you for investing in our mission!
The groomed trails at the Nordic Center are no-dog trails. Nothing personal: we’ve simply observed that skiers, dogs, and grooming don’t mesh very well. Dogs are fine on the snowshoe trails and ungroomed areas within the Nordic Center. Good etiquette requests that all dogs be leashed until they're away from the trailhead area. For backcountry touring, the Sand Flat area on Mt. Shasta provides ideal terrain for skier and dog alike. If you travel up Everitt Memorial Highway from downtown approximately 10 miles, you’ll find a couple small parking areas to the left side of the road. Off into the woods to the same side lies wonderful touring opportunity.
Mt. Shasta Nordic Center operates under special use permit with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
