Rebecca Francos Snowshoe Ecology Tour Senior

MT. SHASTA NORDIC CENTER TO HOST A FREE FAMILY & SENIOR SNOWSHOE DAY

Mt. Shasta Nordic will provide complimentary trail use tickets and gear rental. The Nordic Center has a warming hut where participants can relax by the woodstove and enjoy complimentary warm drinks and desserts. “We encourage participants to bring a brown-bag lunch and spend the day exploring ways to stay active in the winter,” Neel said. The Nature of Winter ecology snowshoe tour, led by natural resource educator Rebeca Franco, will be all about the strategies wildlife and plants utilize when the snow falls. “It’s really interesting to follow animal tracks, determine who made them, and see the story in the snow,” said Franco. “The Nordic Center area is rich with evidence of animal and plant survival.”

No experience is necessary to participate in this event and reservations are required. Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Groups will be limited to 12 people, so sign up early. The snowshoe tours will start fully equipped at 10 a.m. It is advised to arrive ahead of time if the Center will be providing snowshoes and to sign in. Allow at least two hours for the tour. Contact Jillian Neel at 530-859-0803 or jillian@siskiyououtdooralliance.org to reserve a spot. Please be prepared for the weather!
