thinking ahead

The Mt. Shasta Nordic Center operates under a special use permit with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. We currently hold a 30-year permit to operate our ski facilities through 2051, so we’re clearly thinking long-term. You can view the most current copy of our Master Development Plan, which outlines what we anticipate in the near future, but we are also in ongoing discussions with our local USFS staff to consider solutions to the challenge of unreliable snow at our current site. To enjoy viable Nordic skiing opportunities in the Mt. Shasta region in the future, we may need to relocate or expand our trail network to higher elevations which receive more consistent and reliable snowfall.

SORA has applied for grant funding to construct a new trailhead lodge facility at the Nordic Center. The design will provide comfort & amenities for both guests and staff, while enabling us to relocate the structure should future operations necessitate that.

Maintaining quality trails

In our constant quest to deliver the best grooming we can, we’re strategizing upgrades to our equipment.
